1. Explore Archbold Biological Station
Discover the local flora and fauna at Archbold, where you can learn about Florida’s history and see some of the local animals in their habitats.
2. Attend a Class With The Red Easel
The Red Easel is an arts and crafts studio that offers paint, pint, and open mic nights, along with other fun events! They also partner with local businesses like The Pour House in Avon Park and the Soda Factory in Sebring to offer unique paint nights.
3. Try the Military Sea Services Museum
The only museum in the United States to honor the Military Sea Services (Navy, Marine Corps, and the Coast Guard), the Military Sea Services Museum offers free admission and lots to see.
4. Take a Pilates Class
One great way to experience the natural atmosphere of the town is by taking an exercise class. We love CC Studio for the best pilates around.
5. Go Blueberry Picking
Each Spring, Sunshine Blueberry Farm offers U-pick blueberries and pre-picked blueberries, which are delicious and locally grown! Check their Facebook for the schedule.

6. Visit the Highlands County Fair
Experience the local, small-town fair atmosphere with all of its deep-fried goodies.
7. Go to the Sebring Arts and Crafts Festival
The Arts and Crafts Festival has been going on for over 50 years, and it only gets better each time!
8. Explore the Sun ‘N Lake Preserves
While the Hammock is the most popular spot to enjoy wildlife in Sebring, the Preserves are a lesser-known, less-busy, free alternative! It’s a great place to soak in some gorgeous views of nature.

9. Check Out Lakeshore Mall
We’ve gotta admit— it may not have the most options— but there’s a food court, a JCPenney’s, and a few other stores. It’s an interestingly liminal space, too, but you’ll just have to check it out to see.
10. Go Boating on Lake Jackson
Lake Jackson is a great lake to take out the tube, go skiing, or wakeboard for a while. It’s not too bad for bass fishing, either.
11. Eat on the Patio at Don Jose’s
If you want to enjoy pure Florida, grab a table at Don’s on a late afternoon when the weather is nice. Do yourself a favor and take a stroll on the dock afterwards!
12. Attend An Event At Sebring International Raceway
If you’re a motorsports fan, catch a race at this famous track, or make plans to come for the famous 12 Hours of Sebring.

13. Grab a Latte and a Lure at Bass Addict
Located just off Highway 27 in Lake Placid, Bass Addict Tackle and Coffee serves up a delicious latte and offers a good selection of fishing tackle and gear. There aren’t a lot of places like it, so definitely go check it out!
14. Take an Airboat Ride in Sebring

16. Explore the Downtown Sebring Circle
Discover charming shops, restaurants, and the historic circle. Since it was newly revamped on Home Town Takeover, there are now tons of new murals, green areas, and sitting spots to enjoy!

17. Visit the Sebring Historical Society Depot Museum
Learn about the city’s rich history at the historical society museum in downtown Sebring.
18. Attend the Sebring Soda Festival
The Sebring Soda Festival is a fun event that has been growing every year and usually happens in April. While it’s mainly about soda, it’s become a place for everyone to sell and share, shop, and socialize.
19. Explore Lake Istokpoga
Enjoy boating, kayaking, and wildlife watching on the largest lake in Highlands County. It’s a great place to catch Crappie or just to enjoy a nice sunrise.

20. Taste Some Amazing Ice Cream at Maxwell’s
Right outside of downtown Avon Park, you can find Maxwell Groves Country Store, a local shop and eatery that’s well-known for its soft-serve orange ice cream (made from their orange juice!) They also have other locally made items in their shop, including their handcrafted wines, honey, jams, and other things.
21. Hike or Bike the Lake Jackson Trail
A great place to get some exercise, check out the scenic sidewalk trail around Lake Jackson.
22. Check Out the Avon Park Historical Society Museum
One really neat part of Avon Park is the historical society museum located right in the downtown Main Street area. It’s a neat little museum that features a small dining area built inside an old train car.

23. Visit Veterans Beach
When the weather is warm (which is most of the time), Veterans Beach is a good spot to relax by the lakeside or have a picnic.
24. Hit The Greens at Sebring Municipal Golf Course or Sun ‘N Lake
The great thing about Sebring is that there is no lack of golf courses. Check out ‘The Muni’ to play on a championship golf course, or head over to Sun ‘N Lake for 36 holes of fun!
25. Explore Highlands Hammock State Park
Explore nature trails and scenic views as you enjoy the beauty of our local state park. If you like biking, there are tons of bike trails to discover!
